Chinese Seniors CareIt is expected that by 2055, China's elderly population will reach its highest peak. In Hebei Province, as an example, one in four of its population will be over 60 years old by 2020. By 2050, the percentage of seniors over 80 could be as high as 40%.
The traditional model of family care for seniors is now facing tremendous pressure in the context of this dramatic increase. Meanwhile, China’s first middle class population, with strong spending power, has entered retirement age. Their needs for high-quality retirement create a demand for high-end senior homes and long-term care facilities. The gap in the Chinese system, of policies and standards, particularly professional services, will be filled faster through understanding the mature systems of developed countries, like Canada.

BPS Strategies is a commercial member of the Ontario Long Term Care Association, affiliated with a number of Canadian well-known organizations in the education, research and operations of the geriatric care system. We have attended seniors care round tables organized by the ministry of seniors affairs, and hosted delegations from China and Canada. BPS also presented at Chinese international economic and trade conferences, to government officials, decision makers in the geriatric care sector and the general public, in Tianjin, Beijing and cities of the Hebei Province to enhance awareness of professional care, particularly in the long term care facilities, including dementia. |
